On 16 – 17 April 2021 Professor Ineta Luka from Turiba University, Latvia, participated in an international scientific online conference “Crisis, change and perspectives” organised by Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania and presented an article “Developing adult learners’ language competence in culture-based blended-learning course”. The presentation introduced the specifics of blended-learning, analysing the opportunities and methodologies for the development of language competences in a blended-learning format – speaking skills, reading skills, listening skills, writing skills and vocabulary applying traditional and innovative teaching/learning materials for adult learners. The presentation focussed on Output 1 – the blended-learning English language course, introducing the conference participants with the project aims, idea, content, the English language course, the platform and the course evaluation, as well as with the development of learners’ English language skill in it. The presentation was dealing with the observation of learners’ success done by the language teachers and the results obtained in teachers’ questionnaire. The findings highlight both positive aspects and challenges of the course created. Learners have gained cultural knowledge, increased their vocabulary, developed reading skills, whereas it was acknowledged that some improvements in developing learners’ listening and writing skills are required.
